A New Year at Eat Great Meat

Wow, I can’t believe that we’re in 2018 already!  Welcome to the first blog of the year.  I hope everyone’s had a fabulous Christmas surrounded by friends, family and good food.  The Husband had a very busy Christmas both at the farm and in Wortley Farm Shop and we had a lovely family Christmas celebrating at home.

35-day Matured Grass-fed Heritage Beef: The Real Benefits

What better way to kick off the New Year (and shake off any potential January blues!) than with some fantastic offers on 35-day matured grass fed heritage beef?  This really is a special treat – the ageing process makes for a great eating quality of beef that is full of flavour and extremely tender and the benefits of being grass fed are numerous. You will have heard the phrase “you are what you eat” and it applies to livestock as well as humans.  Research shows that the Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acid profile is higher in grass fed cattle – in some cases, the Omega 3 levels of grass fed beef can rival some fish.   And the consumer has the peace of mind of knowing exactly what has gone into their food, making this a brilliant choice.

Angus and Jersey Beef

You can choose between two fantastic grass fed British breeds, the Angus and Jersey.  The Jersey beef has been supplied by John Naylor who farms at Hobson Farm, Buxton, Near Bakewell.  The Jersey breed is well known for the high butterfat content of the milk and are mainly used for dairy purposes.  However, the beef from the Jersey cattle have a distinctive creamy flavour and the fat is more yellow than other breeds.  Our Angus beef has been supplied by Mr Thornton who farms at Field End Farm, Honley, near Huddersfield and is well known for its exceptional eating quality due to the high marbling of the meat. We have dry-aged the beef of the hind quarter for over 35 days on the bone at our family abattoir and is now ready to be butchered.

We’re going to treat ourselves to some Angus and Jersey beef steaks this week and start 2018 off in style.

Wishing you all a healthy and prosperous New Year.

X, The Wife.
